THE CITY OF LORD BRAHMA - PUSHKAR
Pushkar is one of the five sacred pilgrimage sites or Dhams for Hindu devotees. It is said to be the seat of Lord Brahma, The Creator, one of the Hindu holy trinity. Pushkar is one of the ancient cities in the civilisation, also mentioned in Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Puranas, considered as Adi Teerth or Teertharaj meaning the most important of the pilgrimage. Sitting at the height of 510 meters and surrounded by ‘Nag Pahar’ which literally mean Snake Mountains, this oasis town is blessed with only Brahma Temple in the country and is world famous for the exuberant way the Pushkar Camel Fair is conducted here.

Pushkar Lake
According to the legend, a demon called Vajra Nabha killed off Lord Brahma's children. In an act of rage and revenge, Brahma slew Vajra Nabha with a lotus flower, when the flower dropped from his hand into the vale, a lake emerged in that place called Pushkar Lake. Devotees believe that bathing in the holy waters of this semi-circular lake on Kartik Poornima will nullify their sins. There are 52 ghats around the lake, Stroll around where beautiful views help in little soul-searching.

BRAHMA TEMPLE
Jagatpita Brahma Mandir is built with marble and decorated with silver coins, the only temple of Lord Brahma, dates back to the 14th century. The exterior of the temple has a distinct red spire and the image of a Hamsa (swan). The chaturmukhi or four faced idol, each oriented in a different direction with his four hands of Lord Brahma is housed in the inner sanctum. The interiors of the temple contain the images of the Lord of Vishnu, glided Garuda and Dvarapalas (gate-keepers).
